Team Tornado

Team Tornado competed in the Team Tornado Freestyle Duals on 5/19/12 and was able to hand Compound’s elite club some payback after they defeated Team Tornado last year. The duals were broken down into 3 rounds of freestyle and 3 rounds of greco. Teams participating included: Compound (GA), East Tennessee Wrestling Academy, Lion’s Pride (Nashville), and Team Tornado.

Team Tornado won the freestyle tournament and Compound won the greco tournament in a series of competitive finals between the two teams.

Keagan Matlock swept both Iron Man Tournaments that Team Tornado wrestled in this summer. Tournaments took place in Indiana and North Carolina. To win the Iron Man overall one must win freestyle, greco, and folkstyle tournaments. The North Carolina tournament was compressed in one day, the Indiana tournament was split into two days. Matlock continues working towards a state championship next season. Other wrestlers who competed well enough to place or win at least one style at these tournaments includes:

Cody Davis went 5-2 at NHSCA Senior Nationals In Virginia Beach losing on two matches by one point each. His losses came to the 2nd and 4th place finishers from California and Michigan.

Davis pinned a multiple time state champ from Alaska with a bananna split to claim 5th place.

Tennessee had a great tournament, finishing in 13th place overall.

Team Tornado put together an East Tennessee All-Star team this weekend for the Dixie Duals in Hoover, Alabama and had a great performance in duals going 5-1 overall with their only loss coming to Team Michigan. Teams were competing at this event from all over the country including: Florida, Louisianna, Texas, Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia. Results are posted below:

Gabe and Nate Hawkins competed in the youth tournament at the Dixie Duals with Gabe taking second and Nate taking third.

Dillon and Justin Lemons competed at the AAU Youth Nationals in Kingsport this same weekend, with Justin taking 5th and Dillon taking 6th.

In an effort to continue to improve wrestling in East Tennessee, Team Tornado will now have two different training locations: King College Wrestling Room (Bristol) and Heritage High School Wrestling Room (Maryville).

King College Location

Practices begin Sunday March 18th from 2-4 PM. I will be in the room at 1:00 on this day to answer any questions anyone may have as well as register everyone.

Practices are held in the King College Wrestling Room in the bottom of Kline Gym.

Practices will then run Sunday 2-4 PM (unless we are out of town competing at a tournament, such as Sunday March 25th when we are competing at the Dixie Duals)

Thursday 6-8 PM

Cost is $150 for 3 months of training. All athletes must have a current USA Wrestling Card for Insurance purposes.

Heritage High School Location

First Meeting is Monday March 5th at 5pm in the Heritage Wrestling Room.

Practices will then be Tuesday and Thursday from 4:30-6:00 PM immediately starting the day after the meeting.
